there no installers so thats why you don't see anything in program files list .

Looks like there basically self contained, meaning everything it needs is in the folder , kind of like portable but does use .gimp-2.8 folder .

I then tried to open it, and the new icon came up and bounced for a while, then asked to be allowed again, said yes, and it disappeared. Now when I try to open it, the dock icons move over to give it room, the mcgimp icon tries to open but blinks immediately out, and the dock icons close the space. I cannot open it at all, even though it shows that the file is there in the finder, and the icon is with the other two mcgimp versions in the app page. I am stumped.

Partha I noticed in the 2.9 log some errors .

Nope, it makes no difference where you install it.

I tracked down what the issue is and it's on my side and you are doing fine. Can you replace the file gimp-2.8.exe with the attached and let me know if it solves the issue?

Thanks,
Partha

Ok... will try that although I thought I would do a clean reinstall first. When I tried to uninstall windows could not locate the file so had to take it off manually...do you know why that would be?

Hi Deb,

Nothing to uninstall. Simply delete the the folder where you installed Gimp-2.8.14 and you are done. It is completely self-contained.

If you want, feel free to download again from my website but the only file change is the one I uploaded here.

Thanks,
Partha

Thank you Partha....it now works :)
As a matter of interest why does Gimp now not show up in Programs and Features?

Thanks again for all you time and hard work :)

My continued philosophy regarding how much one should mess with a person's computer. Hence, like the Mac, the windows version is self-contained.

You don't need to keep the previous version 2-ton. Just use this version and you are good to go.

In fact, you will get a name clash if you keep the older version. Sorry. But I don't see why you need to keep the other version. Just keep a backup of the old version in case you are worried. :)

Totally harmless and nothing to worry about.

OK, thanks. It was inadvertent. I didn't think about removing the old version. I will trash both versions and re-download the new version. Hopefully that will do the trick, although I seem to manage making a mess of even the most simple of things !

*woo hoo, it's all good. Here is my first Bevel Reflect Logo...just defaults but still, all is working perfectly!

Yes, based on Deb's report, I went ahead and updated my builds.

Very pretty 2-ton. I just love this particular script for these kinds of beautiful text.

Yes, and now that we have seen how to do something similar with the lighting effect tutorial, it's fun to be able to use this speedy script. Huge thanks to all who write scripts and plug-ins, and to Partha for keeping us supplied with McGimp!

*and of course, I went nuts downloading a bunch of the enviromaps, lol. My poor hard drive is already 2/3 full with stuff I save, I need to clean house!

Just wonder, does this build include RGGJAN Partha. You said it installed separately from GIMP's directory; just wish it would be like GIMP since that implies it will also use it's own folder in user's directory. Anyway, if it does include RGGJAN then that would motivate me more to install, but now, I'm still a little gun-shy since 2.8.10 still works great for me. :)

Sorry Lyle, RGGJAN is a separate install and is not part of this build.

Is it because i have the gimp.org 2.8.12 64 bit version installed you think?

Windows 8.1 64 bit

Hmm. Do me a favor Rod?

Since I usually get reports about program not starting etc., I have started to keep a log.

In your TEMP folder (on Windows 8/7, it should be C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Local\Temp), you will find a logfile called __gimp-2.8-run.log (Notice the 2 underscores). Either send me that file or look through it for the source of the error.

Thanks,
Partha

Rod,

GDK pixbuf fails on your system, probably because of your theme. Can you try to run without your theme and then we can see how to get your theme working?

Thanks,
Partha

I have decided to just keep GIMP-2.8.10 Partha. It isn't broken and GIMP-2.8.14 or 15 adds nothing new to the features so why fix it if it aint broke. Besides i just got all my adobe plugins working with PSPI again. :lol
Installing GIMP-2.8.14 (Gimp.org version) really messed things up. Got her rolling along nicely now though. ;)
Thanks for the help though.

Same here Rod, I eventually got my 2.8.10 and old G'MIC (1.5.9.3) working again through a system restore. (Can't not have one on my system)
