making some patterns seamless

GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Can anyone show me an easy way to make some of my patterns seamless. I like to use them for backgrounds once in a while and don't know how to get the lines out. I tried the script, make seamless, but that doesn't work on most. example below.

Molly, may be usefull

edit>fill with pattern seamless
or
edit>fill with resynthesized pattern

Thanks Marcello, but I tried edit>fill with pattern seamless and it just turns the layer black. The resynthesizer just makes a bunch of squiggly shapes.

try the all. pat in zip file
lines are out but the pattern is not perfect

The problem is, you have too many shades of gray.

If you convert to indexed mode and open the color map, you see better, blacks and almost blacks in adjacent pixels.

To get a repeatable pattern out of that, will take some sorting.

Best bet choose a subset, here only 11 pixels (although more will represent the original better), copy and paste repeatedly with a pixel offset.

Now you can make an 11 x 11 selection and that will repeat.

Gee, that does look rather confusing Rich but I can try it. I wanted to be able to make all my backgrounds that are made with patterns, including the default checkerboard one into seamless.

Especially for diagonals and that type of pattern, just look for a repeating sequence.

As usual, I never keep anything, so from scratch using your image, here is a slightly larger 21 x 1 pix strip rebuilt into a 21 x 21 pix pattern.

Make seamless isn't really a script for making seamless patterns with perfect geometry
like in your example, it is more for making tilable textures.

In Gimp you can fill any canvas with pattern like yours in seconds with FG to BG (hardedge) gradient.
Check adaptive supersampling, choose sawtooth or triangular wave in tool options and drag the mouse a few pixels.
The line thickness will be determined by how far you drag the mouse.

Making perfect seamless patterns (with complex geometry) takes a vector editor with pattern making tool,
and afaik the only app capable of doing that is Illustrator. Yet the process is not fully automated/scripted.

I love that filter too Kit but I meant making a seamless checkerboard pattern out of the default transparent layer.

transparent layer? it has no pixels
by checkerboard pattern do you mean the transparency grid (not part of the image) or the style?

Yes the transparent grid. That didn't have any pixels cuz it was a screen shot.
