Well, let me see,
I'm 54 years old, (oh no, it's an old geezer, run!) retired due to arthritis. I'm married 3 kids 3 grand kids, I have 3 dogs 1 parrot and 22 rats and I'm a Christian. I found a passion for computers back in he late 70s, so I tend to giggle at the kids who say old geezers shouldn't be online because I've been right there every step of the way for computer evolution when they were playing with blocks. I was online before there was an internet. my first real experience with graphics design was with an old Commodore 128, then I went to an IBM XT that I took out of a dumpster and fixed (I have a degree in electronics) then to bigger things. My first real graphics program was a pirated photoshop 5 which only served to make me aware of the possibilities. I scraped that and went to Paint Shop Pro, used that for a long time because it was all I could afford. Then I met Xara Extreme and really liked that, then Gimp came out and I've been in a state of bliss ever since. So as of now everything I do I do with Gimp and or Xara 5. Well, that was a long possibly boring rant. Sorry, got carried away.

How nice to meet you Gms9810. It's nice to know a little about our members and their experiences in computers and in GIMP.

What I'd really like to know is what you are doing with those 22 rats. Are they pets? You have roused my curiosity.

Welcome to Gimp Chat. Very nice to have you. :hi5

Yes, Jolie, they're pets, we've raised all of them all from birth and their parents before them. Rats are cleaner and smarter than dogs and cats. My wife's favorite pets are our ferrets but mine are always our rats. They never ever bite, give themselves a bath several times a day and are very social and affectionate. 22 is a lot, it's more than we would prefer but some were my daughter's and she can't keep them anymore.
By the way I've watched and saved every tutorial video of yours that I can find on youtube and would like to say ..... THANKS!

I was the one who asked about the rats. Are they white, brown, gray, etc.? Do you have pictures?

I had rats as pets when I was a kid! Most pet rats are white with black points, back and spots. My favorite rat was named Speedy Gonzales and he would sleep on my pillow at night sometimes. We liked to put him on the dinner table and watch him head right for the cube of butter...we thought it was hilarious when adults would see the little teeth marks on the butter! Speedy learned to come to his name, but not so sure I found the rats smarter than our dogs, but they are quite smart for sure.

I'm sorry I got you mixed up. When I posted my last note we had 22 rats, since then we had to rush our oldest one to the vet and have her put down. An average rat lives about 2 years, an old one might live 3 years. Miriam, ours was 4 years, that's 120 years in people years. We've spent the last hour or so in tears. Regarding colors, Most of ours are dumbo Berkshires, says a lot I know, rats come in a LOT of colors. I attached a link that http://www.hawthorn.org.uk/varieties.aspwill show most of them.

I'm sorry about the loss of your pet. They take a piece of us with them when they die. :rfy

Thank you for the link. I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures.

http://gms9810.com/rats/ < is a small album but it represents the girls and a few of the boys. I'm sorry it's not very pretty. After we got home from the vet and after I checked this forum I found out that my best friend died this afternoon too. A very rough day to say the least. I've been occupied in contacting people and making another small album to put online for our friends.

Thanks. He and I knew each other for a long time, if he knew I was crying over him he would verbally beat me up so I have to get on with my life. For the last 8 or 9 years he and I had a bet about who would live the longest. I lost. I won't mention is again, this a Gimp room and I'll talk Gimp stuff from now on.
