Yes I will...Wallace I tried your wonderful tutorial above but it was very late last night so I will try again this morning when I can concentrate more. I did find that the parts towards the end I wanted to see mostly went so fast that I missed something and I have stopped and started several times. I will try again soon and let you know how I go. I at lease was able to fill the hollow font with a gradient but it was the parts after this which went too fast. You are dealing with a basic user of Gimp here...haha!

As you can see, there is gradient on the background too. Did you create the text and then Auto Crop Image before you started? I have done the tutorial up to this point but am stumped as to why yours looks different to mine.

I didn't "auto crop" the text. I did a "Layer to Image Size" on the text lay. All the layers are the same size.

You're confusing the heck out of me. What is it that you are trying to do? Are you trying to fill the hollow space or the outline?
I also can't figure out what your trying to do from your xcf file.
We all would like to help you out, but you really need to explain exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish.

Wallace, I did explain what I wanted to do in my first post. I want to fill the hollow text with gradient. In the tutorial you didn't say anything about 'layer to image'. This is where it all went wrong. As I am just learning, I don't know the things you know and this is why I am asking for assistance. I have since gone back to the beginning and added 'layer to image' and completed all the steps and it now works beautifully. I will now write down all the steps from a-z so I know how to do this next time. Thank you for your assistance, I am most grateful.

yes...I advised you of that in my last post?? I figured it out once I put the 'layer to image' on the text layer in the beginning of the exercise. Did you not read my last post? I am confused now.

You are saying 'layer to image', it's "Layer to image size". There is no 'layer to image'...
