In the last days i saw several messages almost unreadable, i suppose written in some sort of weird slang

I don't want do any finger pointer but only remind that this forum is in english also because is the most international language and many visitors and contributors here are not native english:
they (we) can't read slang, it is more easy(thank to google) translate ancient chinese then slang so i would prefer message in ancient chinese or sanskrit then in slang (but English would be much better :hehe )

so please avoid to shorten words by removing all consonants ,to shorten "and" in "n" and so on a on because can be very upleasant for other not sharing the same slang

I am the first to do all sort of typo and syntax errors but i do my best to use a language that other may understand, not sure for native speakers, but i am sure for not native is more clear a message
written by spanish, french , dutch or german in a poor english then slang.

Thank you for saying that, PhotoComix.

Yes, please keep our International friends in mind when you are posting. English is hard enough to learn as a second language and shortened slang terms are impossible to understand. Native English speakers find them difficult some of the time, too.

It's considered hip to butcher down the language in some circles but certainly not in here.

I think the shortening of words comes mostly from the habit of using instant messengers and texting on cell phones, where messages have to be short and fast. But wen u typ lyk dis, ur not makin it ez for ne1. Except maybe yourself. :)

This is a message board and there is plenty of time and space to type complete words. It's okay if you're not sure how to spell something, as long as you're trying to be clear for the people reading. If you don't try, you run the risk of people not reading what you post... :(

Of course, this goes the same for all message boards and email, I'm venting

The problem is that it's phonetically typed and shortened. The letter U sound like "you" if you speak English. It sound like "eeew" in Dutch. (Well something close to that.) If you do that with a whole sentence it's gets hard to decipher.

"wen u typ lyk dis, ur not makin it ez for ne1" in Dutch translates to:

Wen eeew teap lick dis, eeer not mahkin it eh-zet for nuh-ain.

Hi Jolie, I am Dutch born , my father who is 94 and who has lived in Australia for 51 years still talks like that.
The Dutch accent is extremely difficult to mask or lose. :) Your "Dutched up" English made me laugh
BTW Completely agree with the above comments.

Personally I hate netspeak, it just indicates laziness and a low vocabulary. It is rude and insults the reader's intelligence. if you mention it to the speaker it always ends with them putting the reader down as being ignorant and behind the times. I wish I knew more languages, as it is I can speak Missourian and a little english and a few snippets of Japanese and a few words in spanish.

i may start to use Italian SMS slang as " 6 1 S" ?

it is a sentence often used, even in families, to offer friendly feedback ... 6 may be read as " sei" and means "you are" 1 is read as "uno" and means "a" , S in a similar context stand for what used by ecological farmers to fertilize ...

PhotoComix +1.
As far as spelling is concerned:There are spelling control programs in abundance free.
I have often wondered why English spelling was never changed.
Practically all Western languages have rules that when followed insure correct pronunciation.
Long ago I worked for an American company in South America.
No computers,no text editors.
What I noticed was that the Americans made far more spelling errors than non-Americans.
I think that's because when we learn a foreign language writing and speaking go together.
You speak your native language long before you start writing it.
Gerard.

I love that English spelling never changes. I have no idea how to spell pancakes in Dutch any more. It changes every few years.

English:
Plural -> add an S
When the word ends with y change "ys" to "ies" e.g. Billy -> Billies
'S works like this:
The two Billies read Willy's book.

That's it.

Dutch:
Plural -> add "en" or an S or 'S ( huh? ) or change "um" to A or an O to an I.

For Willy's book, there can be a rule that it is S or 'S depending on how the word ends and sounds and God know what else.

I'm already lost and then they go and change it every few years. :gaah

In English once you know, you know.

I used to work with a man from Vietnam and he said that English was so hard because we have so many words that sound the same but mean something different - like Too, to , and of course two. :lol
