Barbaric treatment... You can open the bottle with your bare hands, without spilling any wine or venting any meaningful amount of gas, and keeping the cork in hand. Loose sparkling wine corks are a sizeable part of all eye injuries.

I'm thinking the tip is supposed to come off. I watched another video where the guy (barman?) took the top off using this method.

A corkscrew is the simpler way.
That way still breaks some of the glass off. Good find though.
