With xp if you have Python already installed it should have shown in the gimp-2.7.2 menus.
If not you may need to install gtk runtimes as PYGTK needs them to install - if you have to do that i would just use the runtimes from here

download and install the runtimes first and then install the themes. Then just go into the runtimes folder and find gtk_prefs and double click to run the themes package selector.

You get some nice looking themes packaged with it.

I don't know why python is not working out of the "box" (zip in this case ) since it is included in the zipfile for both 32 and 64-bit. Can you send me a screenshot of the directory structure of your gimp installation?

I will definitely look into your suggestions.

Thanks for the heads up Partha.Looks like GTK Theme selector is the way to go.
I have not had any problems with it so far and i was even able to add the engines and theme folders from Themes 1.0 by Gimper into the selector so i could have my Aurora Midnight theme back.

I suppose Python don't run out of the box because 2.7.2, if i am not wrong require a newer version

I didn't tested on your build yet, but was working out of the box in another 2.7.2 i compiled on linux time ago

Not really - Python interpreter was included in the download and pygimp.interep points to the included python (which is version 2.7.1) and so it should not be needed. I will have to test this again in case.

And yes, I was referring to your PM. I downloaded GURM and checking it out.

Weird i have no any python folder in my Program Files still i have a python entry in my "all program " list..and apparently also python because if i click on it a console windows flash...and even the py unistaller show up if i call it...but no idea where is hidden in xp (well "search" will found it if needed )

I did notice a python folder in your zip but i didn't look inside i tought were the other libreries not the main program

anyway on xp i should have python 2.6

But up to to now the python console entry doesn't show up in the menu

This is how it should be. I did include it in both the zip file that I uploaded to my site. So python should work out of the "box". Anyway, will test it again.

Well, my apologies to you PC. I think I know what happened. I must have forgotten to include python27.dll in the zipfile. It is included in the 64-bit because that is the OS I use daily. Typically in a Python installation it is put in the windows/system32 directory. It needs to be included in the gimp-2.7.2/python directory.

So, if you don't have this file, I will fix the zipfile and upload it to my website.

so i must have the file on my laptop (win 7) so should be easy as transfer the file from 7 to xp with a usb key ..correct ?

A 64-bit dll will not work on a 32-bit Windows machine. However, if you are using a 32-bit application on 64-bit machine then you can use the 32-bit dll on the 64-bit machine. So, you need the 32-bit Python and copy python27.dll to the gimp-2.7.2/python directory.

On xp i have ...somewhere... python 2.6,
extracted from there will work ?
if not could you upload somewhere (i think you may upload even here as attachement, only should be zipped)

Yeah i had python 2.7 installed already before i added Gimp-2.7.2 so i probably didn't need the dll.
That will certainly help out many who do not have python 2.7 installed though.

Hi All,

To all those who downloaded the 32-bit zip and had problems with Python, I owe you an apology. I forgot to include a crucial python27.dll which is normally installed in the Windows\System32 directory.

Anyway, please download the attached zip and unzip it into the following directory:
C:\Program Files\gimp-2.7.2\python

Start Gimp and you should see the python console by clicking on Filers -> Python-Fu -> Console
