As a technicality, I do use GIMP (Among other programs) to figure out how I am actually going to manage artwork in various ways.

With that said:

Which media is this?

The jet was done in oil pastels on canvas board.
The planet (Supposed to be earth) was acrylic on canvas board.

Oil Pastels made a fool out of me, so I'm mad at them right now.

I tried them on a canvas and tried to use baby oil to make them spread better...that kinda worked but the canvas is too smooth so it won't soak the oil and won't dry....
I botched a perfectly good canvas and I don't normally get to use canvas, so I'm mad at them. xDDD
I liked it on watercolor paper when I tested them though...

Ah, been there before.
Sounds like you need something to soak up the excess oil, or break it up.

Among some of my experiments, I have found that industrial acetone will actually cause oil pastels to dry out.
If that sounds too extreme, you might try powdered chalk (Like what you might smack out of chalkboard erasers), clay, or sodium bicarbonate.
Just apply liberally, wait awhile, then gently brush off the excess. (Chalk may be the least likely to destroy the painting)

As for blending, or applying brushstrokes:
A blending stave, while slow and tedious, requires no solvents.
Turpentine is the best solvent for working with oil based media.

For no reference it's really nice! The perspective is a bit off but I'm lousy with it myself and it could be a style how you are doing it sooo..it's all good! I like the textures. :3

And yeah, I kinda just threw paint at it and rolled with it.
It was initially just a sunset and a hill's silhouette before my mom showed me how to do trees.

My photography has something to be desired as well.

I really like the "loose" style of this painting. Something I've never been able to manage.

Oil paint on a stretched canvas that had been used twice before.

Just finished this thing, managed to thin out the paints with linseed oil, and managed to clean the brushes in between layers with soap and water.

One done just this morning.
Tried a mountain this time... diiiidn't quite work as planned...

Though the old fallen tree worked out well I think.
