I have not done this myself, so take this with a grain of salt. But I think previously it was posted that someone installed 2.71. and then reinstalled 2.6.11. So that may work for you. Of course, this may mean that any customizations you have done may get erased. though I am not sure if the installation wipes out the users local .gimp2.6 directory or not. I don't think it does.

This current package will not wipe anything since it is not getting installed. If you go back to one of the earlier pages, I think I and others have detailed exactly how you can install this version. I think bilbo9955 even had screenshots and so did Rod.

YMMV,

OOPPSS sorry Partha i did edit the Path correctly but i was confusing in my previous message, Programmi(x86) is for 7, now i was installing in XP so it is just Programmi, that anyway is already fixed , python was the only detail left to fix

Going to edit now the 2 file (you wrote "No edit the 2 files that Rod pointed out " but i feel confident that was a typo for "Now edit the 2 files that Rod pointed out ")

PS
To avoid to unistall gimp 2.6 i found a simple and quick trick:
delete both gimp-2.6 folders BUT taking care to not empty the Waste bin

Once installed 2.7 open the waste bin, select the 2 folder and chose "restore"...so they will go back in place

No problem to edit the file in interpeter, i post what i did just in case but should be fine

python=C:\Programmi\gimp-2.7.2\Python\pythonw.exe
/usr/bin/python=C:\Programmi\gimp-2.7.2\Python\pythonw.exe
:Python:E::py::python:

I have some doubt on the other file

; PYTHONPATH=${gimp_plug_in_dir}/python

i should replace {gimp_plug_in_dir} with the path for pythonw.exe ??
and delete or leave the $ at start?
or maybe something similar to
; PYTHONPATH=${C:\Programmi\gimp-2,7.2\lib\gimp\2.0\plugin}/python ?

No PC i would leave it like that.It should look for PYTHON PATH.

ABOUT Re-INSTALL-
Yes you can probably do it that way also. Move them to the recycle bin
I wanted a fresh 2.6 install anyways so i did it the hard way.
When i installed Gimp-sharp and Gimp-2.7.1, i just renamed gimp-console.exe and gimp-2.6.exe to something else and just renamed them back after.I didn't have to rename or move the 2.0 folder.I do not know why.
I guess the 2.7.1 installer looks for the 2.6.exe file and un-installs accordingly.

The safest way is probably how PC did it though - just remember not to touch the empty recycle bin button :lol

I think Rod already answered this. In any case, please do not edit this path.

Also, after you have 2.7.2 working, please post a screenshot. :)

Thanks,
Partha

Now i have to do the same for my 7 laptop .. :seeya

@Partha
i think will be nice add in your blog entry a note for not native English:
luckily not native English may often read english but good chances their computer language will be not English.

So they all would need to edit the pygimp file to replace "Program Files" with Programmi, Los Programmos or how the heck will be typed in Chinese ,Japanise, Russian, Arabic and so on and on and on...

PC i wanted to re-install Gimp-2.7.1 so i tried to move all the gimp folders in Program Files to the recycle bin.Didn't work - the installer for Gimp-2.7.1 found the installs.Could this be because of registry entries?
I removed all the user folders also - still didn't work.

Congratulations! :)

I will most certainly add that to my blog and link back to here.

Thanks for trying and please let me know if your plugin mods are working OK for you. :)

Nope no issue. Just wanted your feedback on whether you think everything is working the way you envisioned.

Got a cleaned up version yet? I am looking for the zip file, or something, or is it buried in these 130+ posts somewhere... cause I'll find it just don't want to read them if I don't have to. Or if one of you could just post it up.
Got Windows
Vista
32 bit

There is no installation file. If you are not confident about editing system variables, then you should not use these instructions. If you feel up to it, then the following should work:

If you go to http://www.partha.com, then you can download the Windows 7, 32 bit Gimp-2.7.2 version.
if you are in the English Locale (or if your programs are in c:\Program Files\), then Unzip to gimp-2.7.2.zip to c:\Program Files\.
Once you do that, you will need to change the Windows Environmental Variable called PATH. I don't have Vista and so don't know where it is located. You will have to find it. Typically, if you click computer and System Properties, it should be in the Advanced system settings.

All these details are on the above website. The only additional step you have to take (also on the website) is download the python2.7 dll, unzip and put it in the directory - c:\Program Files\gimp-2.7.2\python. Then it should all work. :)

If i remember well there are no differences for Vista, you go to the Control Panel or how may be called in English, then System, in System " Advanced"

If you google "Windows Vista PATH variable", you get a lot hits. So, I tried and pilfered this from one of the sites. See if this works:

Click Start -> Control Panel
Click System, on the right you’ll see “View basic information about your computer”
On the left is a list of tasks, click on “Advanced system settings.”
The Advanced tab of the System Properties dialog box is shown. Click the Environment Variables button on the bottom right.
In the lower box titled “System Variables” scroll down to Path and click the Edit button.

Now, use the arrow keys (or the Home key) to go to the beginning of the box. Then add the following:
C:\Program Files\gimp-2.7.2\bin;

(Don't forget the semi-colon in the end).

Hit Save and exit out of the dialogues.

Let us know if this works.

Thanks,
Partha

I can get to the Paths area, just didn't see one called PATH... and I couldn't find System, and then I went to system and maintence, and there is no View Basic Info About your Computer

That is exactly the problem i had with 7 there is no any Path entry(i mean no any path with the name "Path" )

I didn't solve yet, because i was more motivated to solve for the 32 bit version on XP because the huge preview plugin...

In 7 for some unknow reason add there a new entry called "Path" didn't solve (i even tried "PATH" and "path" without luck )

But stay in tune i will try again tomorrow ...

You may be able to just add the new value name Willy.
Click on NEW - a new dialog will pop up, and put in these values
variable name - Path
variable value - path to your gimp-2.7.2/bin folder - whatever it may be.
restart your machine.
Go back and verify the variable is still there -if it is you should be good to go.

On a side note some folks have been able to copy all the DLL files in gimp-2.7.2/bin and paste them in the Gimp-2.7.2/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins folder - you can try that first if you like.
REMEMBER to get python to work download that python-2.7.dll file from Parthas website, and place it in the Gimp-2.7.2/Python folder.

Good luck Willy!
Just a heads up you should be able to re-install Gimp-2.6.11 after you install Gimp-2.7.1. I was able to install it again after it got un-installed by the Gimp-2.7.1 installer.

Willy or PC,

Can you post a screenshot of the window where you find (or don't find) the Systems variable in Windows 7/Vista?

Thanks,
Partha

PS: BTW, PC, I have solved the issue with large previews in Gimp 2.7.2 64 bit, just have not packaged it up. :)
