I keep getting calls from Microsoft about my computer. Just now I receive one from the same guy who was on the line last week. he wanted to know about my computer and if I had been getting viruses lately. Are these calls for real or are they scams? If they are scams, how can I get these calls to stop? They show up on my caller ID as Private Name, Private Number. These calls are starting to get on my nerves. :yell

They are scam. Just hang up.
USA has no no call list. You can put yourself on that and it filters out a lot of those telemarketers.

It's a scam to try to direct you to a website where spyware will be installed on your computer. Once they talk you into going to the website, they will have full control over your PC and they will attempt to gain access to any private or financial information that passes though your PC.

If you went to a website or installed anything they recommended, you need to have your computer checked for viruses/rootkits.

Microsoft will never call anyone out of the blue to check on the status of their system. You can be sure of that. :hehe

I never go to sites and install anything that they recommend. The only updates, I get are directly on my laptop.

Here's the latest example of someone dealing with one of those fraudulent calls: http://www.csoonline.com/article/289337 ... pened.html

You should be able to find several examples of people trying to wind up the scammers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UE_Q1pprEg

Thanks Kevin! :) I read the article and listened to the clip.. sounded very familiar to me.. same thick accent... in my case, the scammer was a male.

Microsoft, your IP, your Bank ... none of those would call you to get information from you. The phone calls are totally annoying though.
