Hi, I have been very impressed with the examples of the new Engrave Filter in Black and White Gmic.
I have tried to install this Gmic (1.6.1.0) version but it does not appear to work with Gimp 2.6.11
I get the following error message "The procedure entry point gimp_image_get_item_position could not be located in the dynamic link library libgimp-2.0.-dll" Note this may be due to the fact that my tablet is not installed on my laptop. (I am on holidays in SA). I really do not know. In any case Gmic is not present under filters when I tried to install Gmic 1.6.1.0. Reinstalling my old Gmic works fine. Should Gmic 1.6.1.0 appear under filters?
I tried to install the exec in program/gimp2.0/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins but get same problem. The dll libgimp-2.0.-dll is present in program/gimp/bin.
I tried to renew/update my gmic 0.0.0. via the GMIC options but that also did not get the new filter in Ronounours' testing entry.

So question is, must I upgrade to Gimp 2.8 to use this engrave filter?

The plug-in API has been modified between the 2.6 and 2.8 releases of GIMP, so the compiled version provided on the website uses the function names of the new API.
That explains the error. Anyway, I think you can try to compile the plug-in specifically for the 2.6 release. It should work.
This means, retrieving the sources, getting the dependencies and compiling the plug-in.
If you are on linux, this is probably not so hard, just a few packages to install and run the compilation.
If you are on Windows, you should probably just forget it, and try installing GIMP 2.8 instead. Compiling GIMP plug-ins on Windows is a real pain.

Thank You Ronounours for your answer. I cannot compile a plug-in in windows (I have tried before and got lost in all the error messages, I am definitely not a programmer) so I will wait for a while until the next Gimp version. I find that gimp 2.6.1 ,1 is very well suited to my present needs (post photo image processing).
