I just tried opening a photo I had taken on my Nikon D3300 on GIMP, however when I open the photo it only shows in the size of 160x120 (even though the image is a 6000x4000) and when I enlarge it, either Pixels or Inches it just turns out extremely blurred. I'm probably just being stupid, but just not sure how to fix this problem, so if anyone can help, that would be great.

Gimp needs the UFRaw plug-in. Right now it looks like you're only getting the camera thumbnail.

There are other RAW alternatives have a look at A Review of FLOSS Raw Processors, Part 1. These are stand alone RAW processors but I would still recommend having UFRaw.

Thanks for getting in touch, I downloaded the UFRaw plugin, however is it a separate programme to GIMP (as I still only get the thumbnail in GIMP)? Sorry, not much computer knowledge.

Yes there are two parts to the program (stand alone and plug-in), but the ufraw-gimp plug-in is what helps with the import. Gimp doesn't not read RAW files, they need to be pre-processed in a RAW editor of some sort in transition to Gimp and UFRaw is an easy choice. You can use any RAW editor you like before importing to Gimp. They all export to Gimp friendly formats. Do you have experience with RAW processors?

I'm using Linux, with most systems UFRaw goes in, gimp/2.0/plugins.
