Also applies to a selection, might be useful.

good to know that it works on selections.
I did it again with the resized image that i posted and it works fine. it seems the bug only happens on large images (the originals were double length and double width of the ones i posted).

Double size still works here (although took forever on this netbook)

I wonder if the problem is one of those multi-threading issues?

Turned out really well Tran. How do you know what the source layer is? Does it depend on which layer you put on the bottom? How did it know to pick the yellow for the trim of the house? Also, do you have to make a selection?

This is great. I was looking exactly for this sort of filter about a year ago.

Worked without a hitch for me:

I put my source layer (the photo) at the bottom and the target (my painting) later at the top:

Then I chose the advanced transfer colour filter with these settings (on the left, below the preview window):

This should then generate your new image in a separate window:

The source image will still be there, so just delete the bottom layer and crop your final result if there's a size difference like mine.

This seems a promising filter.
I do not know if I'm doing something wrong but I can not paint this image:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... anjang.jpg

In the preview window seems to work but when I apply it does not give the same result.
My intention was to paint the over exposed sky. By the way, would it be possible you make an option in the filter to choose it is applied only in the highlights or burned/overexposed areas? But perhaps there is already a better filter for that purpose and I do not know :)

Thanks molly.
I'm using a layer of flat blue color. Here's how it looks the preview:

But this is what I get when I apply:

I've only modified "input layers = All". But with the settings you mention I still have the problem. The weird thing is that in the preview it looks good.

That is strange the result is different from preview.
I got the same thing i was trying your image.
So I thought I'd play with it.
I turned off the reference preview, and screen captured the preview of result and used that as reference.
And this is what i got.

I tried changing the output mode to "New Image" and it seems to produce the exact thing as shown in preview.

You might have found a bug. :)

@trandoductin, I still have the problem with new image as output. What operating system are you using?

i am using windows 8.1.
Here are my settings, just compared it to yours and see if there's anything else that i might have changed that's different.

I did play with regularization and precision and preserve luminance but didn't notice anything different from the preview
