I'm wondering has anyone else reserved Windows 10 on their Windows 7 or 8.1 PC? I ask because the reservation is free and it is the full version of Windows 10. I am just cautious when downloading things to my laptop since I've caught viruses in the past. I have an HP Pavilion g7.

I clicked on the icon because when i turned on my laptop, it was there. I haven't reserved Windows 10 on my laptop yet. Should I reserve it and has anyone else?

Some of us have indeed a lot of reservations about Windows 10.

I'm happy with what I have. I don't want to change it. So until I get a new laptop (which will probably be whenever I get $$$), I'll stick with Windows 7.

You have a year to decide whether or not you care to upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge. As of June 30th, 2016 it's no longer free.
I'd probably wait until the guinea pigs beta test it for you and at least until the first Service Pack is released.

It's not available yet Mackenzieh; it won't be until July 29. All I did was reserve it so that they will notify me when it's ready for me to install it.

Oh, okay. It makes me wonder though if we would have to re install our programs like gimp and other programs we have on our systems when Windows 10 does come out.

I'm hoping not Machenzieh; if they do, then I won't upgrade.

It's not next year; it's less then 2 months from now. If you have Win7 or Win8.1, it's a free update. If you have one of those two OSs, you may have noticed the new icon in the system tray.

I just noticed that in the article. Oops.. I got 2016 from Mike's post. Yeah, I have noticed the icon. So, what happens if we don't reserve it?

I have the same mystery as to whether or not booking. I chose to make a reservation because I think in the end you can always decide whether you want to upgrade or not. if you do not book in advance, you will not have the opportunity to do it within two months as they won't ask you again.

If you want to try it now, you can download the preview version now and run it in a virtual machine. I am currently doing it with VirtualBox.

What I don't like is that it is going to an "App Store" concept like Android and iOS, that is run by Microsoft. This brings up many privacy concerns like the ones seen on those other operating systems.

I have also read that under Win10, the Microsoft "security scheme" prevents any other operating from being installed on that computer! Goodbye Linux.

This whole thing is so confusing. I think I might wait until I see my brother and ask him if he reserved an upgrade for windows 10 on his computer.

I think users who want Windows 10 are bringing up a lot of concerns like will our programs still be accessible if we don't do a fresh install? Back to my original question, what happens if we don't reserve it?

I have a "If the current version is working, why upgrade?" mentality. So I am not going to look into upgrading unless it came with it in the new laptop if i ever needed to get a new one.
Like I was on vista forever... then i got a laptop with windows 7 and i was on that one and then got a laptop with 8.1(currently).
Worse case, I reset to factory settings or just install Linux.

That makes a lot of sense. I think I will wait until I get a new laptop. That way I won't need to worry about upgrading.
