I have uploaded the files to

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-packagers

The antivirus problems with gimprun is a known problem with AutoIt.
It a false alarm. I used the newest Beta of AutoIt. On my Comp, there is
no problem... Sorry, I cannot fix it.

Hello, I'm running GIMP 2.6 still. I was wondering if your scripts and especially the Jan Rueeggs Matting foreground selection tool will be incorporated into the stable GIMP 2.9 version or any future versions?
Also do I have to upgrade to 2.8 to use your scripts with the GIMP-RUN-2.8 exe command? Thanks in advance :gimp

I believe there is nothing certain yet

Not exactly:
You have not to upload to the stable version if you use the compiled binary (there is not installer just to unzip) and you may include gimprun there to make it portable.

This is if you run win in linux is easier compile from the source
( that as the binary and gimprun is on http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-packagers there see "files" and "Onkel Hatti" )

Sorry I'm not totally clear...I'm using it on a desktop win7-64 bit and using version 2.6. I can download from sourceforge and install the scripts in any Users/GIMP 2.6 folder or does it go into the program files?

Then I make shortcut on desktop -gimp-run-2.8exe to launch gimp? does it slow down the performance of GIMP or just the initial opening of the progy?

Do you suggest 2.8 over 2.6, any distinct advances where it's definitely stable and feature rich and highly reccommended to upgrade?

Thanks in advance PhotoComix and/or any other members :)

There are no scripts. The thing you download from sourceforge is a complete gimp.
There is no difference. But there is an additional tool, called gimp-run-2.8.exe.
This tool runs gimp as a portable version. It creates a user directory (.gimp-2.8) in the gimp-directory
and calls gimp-2.8.exe. Thats all.
Does it slow down the performance? No, just the first time takes longer.
Does it interfere with 2.6? Actually no, but: Windows needs many .dll files to run gimp. Normally it finds them
in Windows/System32 or in the system path. If the gimp-2.6/bin directory is in the system path, the .dll from
that directory will be used, even for gimp-2.8. This will fail, because they are too old.

Ahhh Ok I totally understand Onkel. Thanks very much for that  So GIMP 2.82 should be used to minimize the chances of this happening. If need be, can drivers for them be downloaded fromm an alternate area?
Thanks once again :bigthup

Drivers ? There are no drivers for gimp ...well your printer or scanner may need a driver but not directly gimp

on this version you may add additional script and plugin as in other versions , basically the main diffrence is a added selection tool and a cleaner interface and in same cases a bigger preview for the filters included

interested in trying this out, though confused about what needs to be downloaded, or if it can only be run in an external drive, usb stick.

Running windows 32 xp/vista.

currently downloaded
Gimp-2.8-portable32bit and gimp-2.7.4-portable32bit-rggjan.exe from partha's site

and the libgimpwidgets-2.0-0_32 posted by Onkel Hatti.

h'ttp://ww'w.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2607&start=140#p75169

tried to download this version by Onkel Hatti though it doesn't exist anymore.
h'ttp://ww'w.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2607&start=130#p74285

what and how is this installed, can it be installed if gimp 2.8.6 is already installed on the system ?

apostrophe's added to urls due to getting a spam warning.

Cheers.

@sandgroper, Welcome to Gimp Chat. After you make 5 posts, you will be able to post your url's
.
As far as RAGGJAN's Gimp goes, I had it installed on a USB and I ran it from that. It worked fine and the foreground tool was amazing. You could also install it on a CD. You can also install it right on your desktop, there are people here that run several Gimp packages on their PC.

thanks Molly

figured it out , and just needed to run the "Gimp RGGJAN Fork 32-bit" download.
came across problems when downloading due to the antivirus interrupting the download.
needed to stop the AV web shield to download it, and somehow stupidly copied the broken exe file "interrupted by the AV" to a usb drive to transfer to another drive.

wasted some time and installed gimp portable which doesn't contain the new foreground select tool.
couldn't install Gimp RGGJAN Fork ( not knowing it was a broken file), thought it was part of a complicated install package.

shut down and started this drive, mainly only used for the internet, and found the other RGGJAN Fork 32 .exe file downloaded when switching off the AV.

installed it the secondary partition on the HD, and it works fine.
it's definitely a time saver, and a big YES! amazing.

Wow what a run-around on that one but at least got the job done. I would like very much to see that RAGGLAN fg added to Gimp-2.8.

You may to try Onkel Hatti's portable version. He has modified the original RGGIAN. I find that it works better and it has additional options.

I just want to help for those users who unsuccessfully try to use the new foreground selection tool
I mean, I couldn't make it work on 1 image no matter how much I tried and
then I try removing the alpha channel from my image - and the tool finally started working! :hehe
So, the tool works on images without! alpha channel
so remove it first

I am using 32 bit gimp 2.8.14. Computer has 4G ram. Cannot get the foreground select tool to work. Lets you paint the foreground but when hit enter all you get is the select tool outline. Tried with and without apha applied.
Is this the rggjan foreground select?

a) play with the "start percentage" slider a bit, but I do not know, what that value means.
b) Paint the foreground better.
c) do the tool again.

Maybe suddenly, the calculation starts. On very large pictures, it takes a long time.

Any ways we can have it in nowaday GIMP?
(if not - any comparable quality alternatives?)
