Help! I just uploaded g'mic 64-bit (I'm win 8 64-bit) - I uploaded it in zip file form and opened it in plug-ins, then went to open gimp and got these warnings:

pspi.exe Message: pspi: LoadLibrary() failed for C:\Users\necklacemaker\Downloads\gmic_gimp_win64\gmic-gimp-1.6.5.0_pre-win64\libcurl-4.dll: %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

" " " : pspi: LoadLibrary() failed for C:\Users\necklacemaker\Downloads\gmic_gimp_win64\gmic-gimp-1.6.5.0_pre-win64\libeay32.dll: %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

" " ": pspi: LoadLibrary() failed for C:\Users\necklacemaker\Downloads\gmic_gimp_win64\gmic-gimp-1.6.5.0_pre-win64\libeay32__.dll: %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

Too many error messages! Messages are redirected to stderr. (where is the stderr?)

thanks for any help :gaah

Hey Liz: Unpack gmic-1.6.5.0_pre-win64 and go to the unpacked folder and copy everything into,
C:\Users\Liz\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins and you should be back Gimping in no time. :)
Just downloaded the new one myself, all good here on Windows7 64.
Ps, you might wanna remove and clean up what you did before, maby, if possible, know what i meen? ;)

Hello! Yeah, I actually did a system restore to get everything clean - so now (currently) it's back to g'mic 34-bit. Question: before I do anything, looking in my plugins folder, I see it's a mess, and undoubtedly the reason for all my g'mic issues - in file folder I have gmic4gimp_win32, gmic-gimp-1.6.5.0_pre-win64, and gmic_gimp. In compressed (zipped) folders I have gmic4gimp_win32 and gmic_gimp_win64. In applications I have gmic_gimp and gmic_gimp_win32. There is still some obvious clean-up to do, should I just take everything out and start over? Sorry to drop this on you.

No worries Liz, here we go. :)
So, Plugins (Pythons .py) goes into the main C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins
Scripts,themes,gradients,brushes etc is in C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\AllTheStuff
I have had problems sometimes with putting Gmic in the regular plug-ins folder, so that why i do an exception for Gmic and put them in the C:\Users\Liz\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins, besides, that folder is empty so i dont clutter up the main one.

Also, i have made a copy of my Main Gimp folder when i was happy and put that aside so when i screw up, i just uninstall Gimp and reinstall the official one in seconds.
After that i just delete the Gimp folder and replace it with my backup straight up.
Not a problem specially when you are using the same version, i'm cool with this behavior. :)

So, do you have set aside your personal collection of scripts and plugins so you can just clean and start over? Uninstall even? hopefully you don't have tons of plugins and scripts like some seems to have, shouldn't be a problem if they are organized anyway.
Scripts and plugins are usually nothing to 'install, just drag & copy anyway.

So yes try, if you can yes, fingers crossed. ;)

Okay, so I should upload Gimp 2.0? I do also have the 2.6 version, but honestly don't use it that much (silly question - do the different Gimp versions merge together?). Since I have the 2.6 version, should I use that instead of the 2.0 version? Not a problem if I have to download it, just curious. And thanks for all your help!! :)

p.s. - I was just looking in gimp 2.6 and I do see a "gtksourceview-2.0" - is this the 2.0 you're referring to?
(live and learn) :)

We are at version 2.8.14 now so if you are going to do this housecleaning, you might as well try that one out before you make up your mind.
Here are the official ones you can download, incl old ones if that's what you prefeer, you are the boss. ;)
http://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/windows/
Better that you decide on One Gimp version to be in use, go clean. :)
No use in 6 months = throw out the window. ;)

Sorry for the misinformation; I'm actually using the above version (but for some reason also have 2.6 downloaded - not sure why)...but when I click on gimp, it's gimp 2.8.

okay, so: So, Plugins (Pythons .py) goes into the main C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins - I get to C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib, but can't find \gimp\2.0\plug-ins...is there something in between?

but I did find: Scripts, themes, gradients, brushes etc is in C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\AllTheStuff (and I had a lot of stuff already, esp. the brushes!! So is it safe to delete the copied items that were located in C:\Users\Liz\.gimp-2.8\? I'm thinking it is, I just want to verify.

Hello! So before I do this stable release version, should I delete the other versions? And should I put it under C:\program files or C:\user? Or does it matter? One of my big goals for getting/using g'mic is to have access to Film emulation - which I had at one time, but (probably due to me) it's no longer accessible.

The dlls haven't changed; all you should have to do is overwrite the gimp_gmic.exe plugin located in your plugins folder. Possibly need to delete your gimp_update1650.gmic file located in your roaming directory as well, but I don't think you have too (but it won't hurt). G'MIC will auto-download gimp_update1631.gmic then. Below is the directory in question. :)

C:\Users\{your user ID}\AppData\Roaming\gmicrc

Just to rule out other stuff & issues. :)
Start>Computer>Local Disk (C:)
On top left Organise>Folder and search options, in folder options, chose View and in that list 'Tick' Show hidden files and folders. Apply

Maby it ended up in the trashcan? all good then. :P
You can also find stuff using Regedit, just for info and find stuff, wouldn't mess with it too much until you know what you are doing, just a tip. ;)

Yikes, must have somehow ended in the trashcan...can it be retrieved (not from the trashcan, but I'm assuming it's important)? In any case, thank you for all your help! I have more questions to ask, but I need to get some sleep! Thanks again for helping this complete newbie ;)
