Just noticed this doc on the web:
http://www.marcel-lancelle.de/research/ ... ending.pdf

[BTW Marcel Lancelle was the original author of the Gimp plug-in ML Bevel Reflect.]

Since shrinking selection created aliased pixels, I wonder what if I do selection-to-path then path-to-selection back to get non aliased pixels
And I wrote a script for it (it'll be available under Script-Fu)

Previously done, just by shrinking selection

This script by using paths (it did get rid of some sharp edges)

Just another one to show the difference between not using paths and using paths

And yet another version of the script.
This one makes all shrinks from original selection (then selection to path then path to selection and then fills).

here's the cross to see difference that this script produces

Hi awesome thanks Trandoductin it was so hot here i missed the thread for some days. Thanks for the code, i will run in it a moment. I have confusions on whether it can cope with shapes like N's and shapes that dont have central symmetry and central mass, say if you shrink a N, then the middle bar stays on itself, and the side bars move progressively inwards so that they will make a triangle towards the centre rather than bars on teh sides? i will see, Thanks PegLeg and Jontait i will see all these solutions... Trandoduction result is perfect, i have to see if it works with as many shapes as the built in option. brb

Can you show us an example of what you're actually doing, tuone ?
It might make more sense if we could see the whole image and what you're trying to achieve.
