I figured out you can crop/edit out a subject in a photo using the Selection Tool > Rectangular.

When I do it in GIMP it crops out about 95% of the subject but when another person does it with his Gimp (same version) it crops out 100%.

We both draw the rectangle over just that subject (one of 4 in a photo) and then paste as a new image but his has 100%, not mine.

Is there any way in Gimp to designate all the pixels in a subject in a photo so instead of drawing a rectangular box around the subject you spefify the exact pixels?

Eagertolearn: Did you make sure that the image you are pasting into is the same size or larger than the image you are pasting? You may need to enlarge the canvas for the final image.

The only way I can get anything like what you are describing is by turning-on both "Feather edges" and "Shrink merged" in the Rectangle Select Tool's options (see the Tool Options dialog).

Please make sure that BOTH of these options are turned OFF.

Pat625 - I'm not sure I'm following you. After I surround the whole figure with the rectangle and I right-click and choose Edit > Paste As it pastes the same exact image size as the one I copied but that's still not the entire figure within the original photo. I'm trying to crop out one of 4 subjects in a photo. When I crop out just one of the subjects in that photo, it pastes that subject in a separate window but doesn't paste 100% of what was originally in the photo of the 4 subjects.

jontait2 I opened my Rectangle Select Tool's options and nowhere do I see "Feather edges" or "Shrink merged" I see Paths, Zoom, Fuzzy Select, New Toolbox. Are you using Gimp 2.8.2 for Windows?

Can you paste your images (the cropped one and the one it is being pasted into?) Might be easier to understand the problem.

After copying or cutting you can then go to "edit > paste as > new image"

Never noticed mine being a different size unless feather is on in the selection.

Your initial post here said "Gimp 2.8.14" on "Windows 7".
In your thread on GimpTalk you say "Gimp 2.8.2 for Windows on XP Pro".

Either way, if you are seeing "Paths, Zoom, Fuzzy Select, New Toolbox" then what you are looking at is NOT the Tool Options dialog - that's just the Tools drop-down menu.

To get the Tool Options dialog up, do Windows> Dockable Dialogs> Tool Options
Then, when you activate the Rectangle Select Tool, you will see the options for that tool in the dialog ..just click the "Reset to default values" button at the bottom of that dialog and try your edit again.
