Maybe so Sallyanne, but the majority of your continent is desert or not really inhabitable. We have our badlands too, but they are no where near as huge as yours.

I am born and raised in Michigan (U.S.), and I always love it when someone pulls this stuff out of their hat! Much as I hate to say it, We Americans are some of the most arrogant people on Earth. Most of us have simply bought into what we were taught about how 'great' the U.S. is, and have no real concept of the rest of the world. Taken per-capita (that means adjusted for population sizes for those who may not know) most of the world is happier and more content than We are, and they generally don't have to work as hard for their contentment.

It is always funny to see these kind of comparisons. It is humbling in a way.

Love the population comparison Saulgoode, yes the USA has 14 times as many people as Oz, which just goes to show how often we 'overperform' on the world sporting stage e.g. last weeks World Swimming Championships.

Buit at least you did put Tasmania in - Sallyanne how could you leave them out .

Just for clarity on our population distribution ... in a total of 23 million we have two large cities of 5 million each, two around 2 million each and one at 1.3 million, which leaves the rest of Oz to house one third of the population.



... so in many places your nearest neighbour is some distance away!
