That's an interesting looking image.

Thanks.
My hope is that this average abstract kind'a images can capture what the brain perceives subconsciously too...like i remember in psychology 205, that our brain subconsciously notices many things that doesn't push over a certain threshold (which becomes conscious)...like this experiment they did where they spun these cards with words representing emotions and measured the brain waves of the perceiver..even when it spun so fast that the perceiver (test subject) said that he/she didn't notice any writings, but the brain waves showed that it did register a signal but below a certain threshold the test subject wouldn't notice even though the brain signals are there.

Tin, just curious is there a script you can make to automate this?
I haven't experimented with this technique so I'm a total dunce. :D

I guess you could only automate the setting of opacity of each layer, but the placement and scale has to be done by you since you have to pick which features to align on.

trandoductin: that oilified one is beautiful! otherwise i like this better with paintings or photos of people, landscapes or objects just don't seem as interesting to me, but the oilified forest has atmosphere.

i've given up on miss marple, she's looking in too many directions at once :hehe . working on marie antoinette at the moment, well see if it's good enough to post.

here she is - marie antoinette, both old and young and painted by about seven different artists (vigée-lebrun contributed more than one portrait).

after posting marie antoinette i completed my generic image of a wizard - it's merlin (from the tv-series, but the old version), gandalf (from the lotr movies), dumbledore (from the harry potter movies), tim the enchanter (monty python's quest for the holy grail) and prospero (from kenneth branagh's version of the tempest). i wanted rincewind and mustrum ridcully from the discworld movies but there were no good pics of them to be found, so i had to make do with these examples of wizards - made a rather nice result i think :).

nice ones Anmal, I am guessing you like to leave the result as is and not bump up the constrast/brightness? To me the multilayers make it look too flat and dull, that's why i usually play with contrast and brightness on the results.

Thanks Wallace, I don't think it's as nearly as good as the forest one though.

trandoductin: i like the waterfall too - the oilify effect works well on these images. on marie antoinette i don't want high contrast, it doesn't go with the rococo styles. on the wizard image i tried more contrast but it brought out the wrong details (for example the mouth ended up in two places, which doesn't quite show at low contrast), so instead of masking off lots of things and putting on extra contrast on others, i just left it. feel lazy now, though, so i might post a second version!

wallace: thanks :)! i'm happy with that one.
edit: before i forget again: wallace, your new sig is great, i love it!
