Absolutely amazing, Lyle! So how does one go about making string?

Thanks for the comments. Many different iterations of Polygonize (Delaunay) with added convolution step to re-introduce detail, Pat. Takes 10s of minutes too (more nuance then technique so again, no tut this time). I wonder even if it would be easier to convert a target to 3D then create the resulting wireframe if you know how to do so then doing what I have to do to come up with this this (and to me, it's more garbage than result; lol. Still, I sort of like it). :)

when ready, Lyle, you may write down a detailed tutorial; maybe I can derive a filter.

Unless I come up with a simplifed way of doing these, it won't happen, Diego. lol

Still, my bet is you can come up with a better way then me anyway. Look forward to seeing you try. I'm just a tinkerer. To lazy and old to learn coding now. lol

:)

Combining the mosaic truss effort (from a while back) with the Voronoi stitch does make for a cool blend. :)

Lyle: I know I'm driving you crazy with all my questions. But here goes.
Do you desaturate the pic first? Alpha or no alpha on the layers? Is each iteration of Delaunay on a separate layer, leave lines show? What convolution step do you use? I could not get features of the face back?

Here is my attempt. It is really bad.

Yes (desaturate) and there's a setting in Isophotes to keep the background transparent. You can also use the lighten setting for Skeletonize. :)

thanks for the nice opinion you have of my ability, Lyle, but I'm not able to do anything better than your attempts.
Maybe I will post again on G'MIC challenge changing the goal from 3d to 2d wireframe; I think it's possible for some G'mic guru to take the best from the various filters you used and create a good 2d wireframe outcome.

I guess I have to post at least an attempt.
No Delaunay, G'MIC Engrave (for the main image) + Gimp Displace (for the net)

That is really nice, Dinasset. Just engrave and displace?

Pat,

this is the flow implemented to get the final result:

1. Convert the input image into a Grayscale image
2. Add a layer
3. Create a Grid (a "net") on this new layer
4. Map displace the grid according to the input drawable
5. Apply G'MIC Engrave to the input drawable
6. Remove white pixels from the engraved layer (color to Alpha)
7. Merge down the 2 layers
8. Invert to get the wireframe in White

According to your taste, you have to play with the Engrave parameters, and maybe dilate/erode before final outcome

Dinasset: Step 2. When you say add a layer, do you mean to duplicate the layer, or add a transparent layer?
