Haii!

This first drawing was drawn in colored pencil only, and it took me days..mostly cause I kept being distracted but okay...
I'm happy with it, considering I didn't use any baby oil to blend.
Paper was mixed media paper.






This one I used sharpies as base color and colored pencils to shade. And Prismacolor pens for the inking. I used google and a how to draw insects book for kids as a reference...I added more detail than the book had, it really hardly looks like the original...And I only had one angle to work with so I had to figure out the angles myself. The background is a simple blue watercolor wash. I've never drawn a sunflower that wasn't full opened yet so I'm pretty happy with that.




So...yep dats it...cnc welcomed as well as comments.

Beautiful work Moko. The bees are particularly good.

Love the sunflower/bees one...has your style and coloration while also looking more realistic. BTW, we grow sunflowers and the leaves aren't quite as fringy as yours...some have smooth edges and some are just slightly serrated.

Hmm, might be a different breed? I grew up with sunflowers all over our property I remember them being more frizzy, oh well. When inaccurate claim artistic freedom!

I've never tried baby oil for blending colour pencils, then again I still have to buy a decent brand of coloured pencils. I assume you use something like cotton buds for when you do blend? I actually think the pencil strokes look very expressive here. Personally, I'd say your traditional art looks better than your digital art, but that's my view on traditional v digital in general.

If by cotton buds you mean the little plastic thingies with little poofs of cotton on either end then yes, that's what I use. - Baby oil blends cheap colored pencils like crayola and sometimes crayons too. But if you're going to use baby oil you should use watercolor paper or bristol board...something thick, though watercolor paper I think is best because it's also got tooth and that's better for putting all your colors down before you blend them.

I generally prefer Traditional art, I think it's got a certain charm that isn't ever going to be duplicated no matter how hard they try to replace it. But I do sooooo love shading in digital programs, the color range is so big and free it's lovely!! xD
