@Pat: good outcomes.
For the first one -because of the delicacy of the subject- I would have chosen a greater dimension (parameter).
This is my try with 2200.

Dinasset: Thanks for showing me that. I did not understand that parameter correctly. I thought it was more related to size and kept decreasing it! DUH!

you are right, Pat, that's the main purpose, but as a secondary effect decreasing the size will cause loosing details

Nice pictures.
I downloaded the original and wanted to play a bit.
It seems that -as it is- it's not one of the most suitable images for Mosaic; this filter causes quite often a loss in nuances.
Thus I did the following:
- duplicated the original layer
- applied Colors/Value invert to the top layer
- set mode to SoftLight (Overlay)
By this way the nuances are more accentuated.
Run the filter with a value of 2500.
Changed the mode on the top layer to Screen
Here the result, with some nuances left (not all, because as I said this filter "eats" the nuances),
but anyhow a bit less flat in the colours.

as I do more or less always in my filter, not flatting the image lets to the user the possibility of playing with Modes an Opacities; unfortunately in this case this was not enough, thus as said I made a "preprocessing" step.
