My OS is Windows 10, 32 bit
I use the free version of avast anti virus
Avast keeps throwing errors most times windows wants to do an update because they are new.
I have lost the option to say if I want them or not and do not know where I can find them any how. (I assume this happened during an update).
Can any one tell me if I should stop updates and if so how?
I am sure I used to at least have the option of which I wanted to download

I would also recommend, that you make sure the security software you're using is current and has all the latest updates available.
Doing this can also help, when you find something not quite right.

I believe there are 3rd party utilities to stop all Win10 OS updates, but, I highly advise you to both not use them and to not disable OS updates either. There's usually valid reasons why M$ pushes updates. They did get a little bone-headed and said we are smarter than users and made it mandatory for Win10 home users to get updates whether they wanted them or not. This has caused a few issues for many though. Regardless, there's no simple way to disable all Win10 updates. If Avast is having issues, then check their website to see if they have a work-a-round. You can also just use Win10's built in Windows Defender (which I do) but it's not the best anti-virus out there (indeed, probably the worse). I don't depend on an anti-virus to protect my OS, though; I use virtualization (sandboxed OS) instead. Typing this now in my WinXP VM.

I agree lyle and you can't beat using a VM when it comes to PC security.

Yup; delete (via golden recovery point) my VM regularly. The only vulnerability to using a Sandbox is keyloggers. Deleted your sessions often helps mitigate that threat (not, unfortunately, eliminate). You could just run an anti-virus program in your VM too, but I only use blockers (Privoxy (open source), Privacy Badger (Chrome's webstore), and Chameleon (github; only use the old version; the new one doesn't really do anything, but you won't be able to get the old version any longer).

Microsoft usually comes out with updates on Tuesdays, but You shouldnt be getting that many updates.
The last one I got was a couple of weeks ago
It sounds to me like its something else, other than Windows update, causing your problem
Can you be a little more specific as to when these errors occur?

Do you have Malwarebytes installed on your computer?
I suggest downloading the FREE version and doing a scan with it

Win10 does things a bit different Norseman143. There is no such thing as patch Tuesday (can get updates any time), but will admit they still like pushing the majority of updates on the traditional 2nd Tuesday of the month, still.

Thats what I thought until I got corrected by some people at Bleeping computers. They insist they still come on Tuesdays
I told them that I seem to get my updates on Sunday, They said yes but the initial day they send the updates out is on Tuesday
I got upgraded to 10 last July, the day they released it,so you would think I would get mine first
Maybe they send the updates to the people who have the professional version first, and to us Home version users last?

Anyway, She shouldnt be having so many issues, I think its something else setting off her Avast, Not Windows updates

I finally found a work around for now Wallace. Avast does indeed have a 'exception area' For your computer and URL's. So I put one in for Windows update.com in the URL area, so I don't get pop ups every time windows is doing an update. So far, so good. Oh It updates every 240 minutes. Scans everyday as well. (In the background).

Looking at it closer, I noticed it had sandbox areas in it Lyle

Norseman, it does block malware from other sites. I also have a email scanner on so it block there also.

It's still happening. I thought I had stopped them but apparently I hadn't.

Be careful, Malwarebytes free version does NOT continuously monitor your system! Only the paid version does. The free version is great for doing an occasional scan.
