Need some help re Updates vs Anti Virus program

I downloaded a fresh one (which is probably the one I downloaded in March)
Still happening and I fixed my settings in it before too.
Avast has never given me problems before..

Avast started doing some goofy stuff on my mother-in-law's machine a few months ago. I switched her to AVG, and she hasn't had any issues yet. I'm still using Avast, but I haven't upgraded to 10.

Maybe you might think about going to AVG as Steven8 suggested.
I never was a big supporter of Avast anyway.
You could also try using Malwarebytes in combination with Windows Defender,
but you'll need to be more proactive,
when using this security setup.
It wouldn't hurt if you employ good web browsing practices on top of this as well.
There are a lot of choices out there.
You're not stuck with having to use Avast, especially if that's the only thing you use.

Thanks steven but AVG was the last one I used - used it for a few years too. Don't like them any more. I might have a look and see what else is around.
Yeah mine has only been doing this for about a month, probably since the last update.

Hmm. Enough to drive you nuts, I'll bet. You could try Avira. I have never tried it, but you never know:

I think that security software is something that needs to be reevaluated on a periodic basis. All of these companies get a little lax every once and a while, and the best anti-virus program today may not be the best tomorrow.

Also, the best program might not be the best for you. For instance, right now I like Comodo, BUT I wouldn't recommend it to an inexperienced user because setting it up properly is not so simple.

One other to consider is changing you DNS server that will protect you from going to known bad sites. Some anti-virus software lets you do this on the program installation.

Easy mistakes or typos can problems. For example, I was training a group years ago and instructed them to go to whitehouse. gov one person typed in whitehouse.com which turned out to be a porn site. Not being the greatest speller in the world, many times I will "google" what I am looking for to get the correct website.

I dont understand why you are having difficulty. You and I have the same setup and I m not having any trouble with Avast
