Thank you so much Oregonian. A good suggestion about holes... I'll think about it. :)
GnuTux, thank you so much for your nice words. :tyspin

Margaret, thank you. I had missed the step to bump the planet. I've just added that step in the tutorial. :tyspin :)

Glad to help :).

Well Issabella, its really thanks to you for this thread - you know already that I like Dinasset's scripts. So here is another one for you with some tweaking as usual ...

Thank you Issabella, I appreciate your very kind words. :tyspin

You have though set me off looking for ways to 'improve' further my planet outcomes with better relief and other features; I hope you do not mind but I have now modified my own workflow from that described above in your tut, by adding both before and after actions. I found that file>create>patterns>land (using an appropriate gradient) quickly gave me a topgraphical image that I could feed through Dinasset's globe view script. I then put a the result though the Lighting Effects filter, bumping it with a desaturated copy of itself, and then apply various blend modes/tweaks until I get what I like.

Here are some examples, with the top left being the typical image straight from Dinasset's script.

Thanks again for giving me the impetus to go hunting new outcomes ...!!

Gracias Issabella for your pleasant comments; it looks like your orchids are much larger than my Aussie Dendrobiums!

Because it has been raining hard all day, I have spent a lot of time Gimping planets; so this is my last post. I changed my approach for the final 'tweaking' stage on this one and used some BRL content ... it probably needs some finishing off but I am too tired now!!

Thanks again for providing this 'planetary challenge' to help me extend my GIMP knowledge.

Issabella, can you make the tutorial a pdf file instead of a DocX file please?

Thanks,
Mackenzie

Very nice tutorial, Issabella. If I could figure out how to make the holes, I think mine would make a very nice bowling ball.

It was not your English at all, it was definitely my lack of reading comprehension. I just went back and read it again, and it all fell into place! Crazy.

This is where I got confused: "Make with the two images chosen, one unique image. Use layer modes. (multiply…)" I was failing to merge down the two images, and getting caught with two layers, one of which was a sphere! I've got it now.

I will give it a go again tonight!

Still not everything I hoped for, but much better when following the tutorial properly!

EDIT: Made one tiny change.
