I am doing some progress about photography little by little. So I have decided to practise it often and to see the results. I post these two more photos for you all.

Just a hint of blue sky in your picture.

Two versions of the railway picture - the first simple enhancement. The second I have tried to add to the haze as the line disappears into the distance to try and create an impression of depth. I hope it works.

The forest picture; I didn't like the wire fence, so it had to go!

David, I like your improvements. You removed the wire very cleanly. I did my tries too, I don't know if I got something.

Great colours in both pictures.

Having had a go at both pictures, as always, I walked away, then thought "What if?"

So two more versions: the forest picture I was lazy and didn't move all the fence posts, but also another dog has arrived!
The railway I tried to enhance the mistiness of the distance a little more.

David, great additions, the new dog and the mistiness, I like it. How do you do to create more mistiness?

To create the mistiness, I duplicated the layer. Bottom layer I used gaussian blur. Top layer, add layer mask (white). On the layer mask I put a gradient (radial), going from black to white, starting at the farthest point in the picture and ending at a point where I wanted it to be clear (no diffusion).

I think to add to the effect of distance, the bottom layer needs to be made lighter and less contrasty. Also perhaps reduce the saturation - which I forgot to do!

I'm curious about this photo. I don't really know what there is among branches of the tree. It may be a big stone on the ground but it's now I noticed it. When we find a photo with a rare or unexpected object, what is it better to act on it, remove it or respect it? I like how you David removed the wire on the previous pic. Thanks. You all can manipulate the photo as you like.

I know I haven't done any for awhile. Might do a couple more tonight. Few days ago we were given a photo to play with at DPpreview.

I dont know if I downloaded it wrong or it was like this? But I couldn't get the red out without making the sky all white.



I usually use LightZone to open Raws and not sure if did something while I was opening this one.
Anyway something for you to play with When it decides to display.

I've just downloaded the same RAW and opened it with GIMP-UFRAW. I don't have the red colour-cast, but I have no idea what has caused your problem!

In answer to your question, I suppose it depends on the purpose of the photograph. If it is for a documentary record then I think it must not be altered, but as an artistic work I am sure we can make any changes we wish.

I had a look again last night and the Raw was without the red tint all over and the saved jpg was with. I guess I must've hit something when I opened it.

I spend some time on removing object from a pic. Then I try take out colour and contrast, too. Here the original and the result.

Thank you David. I enjoyed doing my try. About the tree, nice colours and most the beautiful look of leaves on the ground. I love that colour you got. Sallyanne's photo is really improved. I like it a lot.

Another one for anyone to try. This was the remains of an old wooden house in Kefalonia - in the same village as the church photograph. Sadly it burnt down a couple of years ago.
The photograph was originally put on a website with holiday apartments in the village. I was tempted to label it as typical holiday accommodation, but was afraid someone might take it seriously!
