Sorry Graechan,
but I didn't make any of the lower case letters for the Chiseled Stone Block font.

I still get errors using the script along with one of the fonts I downloaded from the first page. I can't get the script to work. It it too confusing. I also get errors using the custom cut font script. That script is also confusing.

with the custom font script:
which font did you download and try to use and what was your message that you typed into the script dialog?
if the script runs and you get errors, the error will tell you what layer name it's trying to find and didn't find..that's why it failed.

with the custom cut font script: it only works with that last .xcf font because that's a different script it expects a number of elements layers defined as well to be used to cut out to make the letters.

I just used the default message that was already in the script and I used the cherub font file and I still got nothing when I ran the script. Anyway, I deleted both scripts.

The cherub font only defined CAPITALS letters...the default message has lower case and upper case..you need to type in a message that is all CAPITALS.

Decided to take Tran's Google map source to hirez (pain in the neck; lol).

Click here for the 13.4MByte compressed XCF file (.xcfbz2 format; will open in the GIMP). :)

It works, but why not take it a step further so we can install fonts if we want to or use the fonts that we already have? That way, we would be rid of photofont Photo Start.

The idea is that custom font uses the graphics/photos defined in .xcf files, it has nothing to do with installed fonts.
Sorta like PhotoFonts have nothing to do with installed fonts.
Before this custom font idea, i tried to extract .png information from PhotoFonts file, this was successful, but when i tried to re encode .png information to a PhotoFont file I was unsuccessful. I contacted FontLab but they haven't replied to me so i don't know how to work with PhotoFont file, it's a little more complicated than i thought so that's why this idea came about. If you want to create your own graphical font with PhotoFont I think you have to buy their software. This custom font is an alternative not meant to replace PhotoFont.

That's cool Graechan. :bigthup
I'm making proper lower case letter for this font,
with vines as well.
Give me some time,
I'll post the font file with the new lower case letters added when I'm done.

That makes sense but the script is still confusing to use.

What's the confusion over mackenzieh?

this is version 5 of custom_font script.
(use lowercase letters if uppercase isn't defined,
use uppercase letters if lowercase isn't defined,
use 'space.png' if ' .png' isn't defined)

I was just about to suggest this addition to the script.
You're covering all the bases with this one Tin. :bigthup

If you look at the errors it's just telling you what's undefined and what it's looking for so that you can define them if you want until no errors occur of have a flawless .xcf font (or you can just use what's generated) and ignore the errors.

Yeah, after Graechan created a lower case version of your chiseled stone i knew i had to do something in code to be more friendly
Plus this is nice too because i also look for 'space.png' only if ' .png' isn't found (in the same chunk of code).
'space.png' was introduced because i thought/assumed at first people would try to save each character as a separate .png... so file names don't allow certain characters like ? so i thought maybe i had to look for "question.png" but after font_to_layers script i realized gimp allow layer names to be whatever so 'space.png' wasn't needed anymore but it was already introduced and at that time we already had some fonts with 'space.png' so i decided that the logics to look for 'space.png' when ' .png' isn't found should be in there.

Doesn't the line and letter spacing settings take care of that "space.png, or is it still needed for some reason?

The ' .png' or 'space.png' is used when the script sees a spacebar character.
letter space is spacing between all characters.
