This is my first try following your tutorial. I like it a lot, but I have to practise much more. :)

looking nice!
next time I suggest to play with mode/opacity on the layers to get better evidence of the wood texture (loof at the face e.g., very "flat"), likely the original has too strong colours, IDK.
Otherwise, choose a wood with more "structure".
Did you use the values I indicated for the chisel/carve?
I guess that -if you want to practice- you should do it with this image, to see the progress.

something a bit different: after having used the Frame (cube) I overlayed some blue on the "walls", and reverted the images to look as "reflected".
I guess it could be enhanced if OMG (or someone else) places some "glass look" on the frame....

The image has strong colours. Yes, I used your indicated values. So I'll practise your steps on the same picture. Thank you so much. :)
I like your last one, too. :clap

dinasset, oh dear Lord, this is what happens when your brain is on overdrive. I should have understood that if you use chisel you don't use Beautify >Alpha Shine. You have no idea how long I worked on that. I still have the original "untouched" file separated by colors so I will do again.

Issabella and Wallace, thank you for your encouraging remarks. Despite my not doing it as it called for, I do like the result. I've vacationed there a few times so it has special meaning to me.

Issabella, your work up there - love it!!!

Dinasset - - Now that I have finished with 'steam irons', I hope it is OK if I join you 'fan-girls' club :)

Here are my first two attempts from photos of very old Japanese back streets , hot off the press, one in wood and one in mother of pearl and without fancy GMIC borders as yet

A lot of excellent outcomes above :clap

OMG - outstanding! I agree with Issabella, this is a different type of tutorial and probably could be its own thread.

I don't know if there is a difference on a mac but everytime I used decor>chisel/carve my image became unrecognizable. I cheated, flood filled with a pattern and just beveled each layer. For comparison sake the first is just using bevels and the second is using chisel/carve.

Issabella, Dinasset, Dalia: Beautiful results. I had a lot of trouble and not really happy with my result. Some of the trouble was me, and some my computer. Some of my filters are grayed out and had trouble getting them to work. I think I needed a more suitable picture also. Anyway, I am posting so that you may let me know what I need to do to improve.

@Pat, @Dalia
Your outcomes using "chisel" don't look bad at all to me.
The problems you have is likely my fault: in my simple/short tut I didn't explain that the values used for chisel are related to images having a Width+Height value of 2400 pixels
(e.g. 1600x800), otherwise -with smaller images- they have to be reduced to find the best ones.

@Dalia.
I took your outcome without chisel (but still a bit beveled, so it is not the best source) and repeated the steps with the chisel filter but after enlarging the image.
This is the result:

as you see, the chisel effect is more "moderate" with this image size.
