stoke with gradient? (SOLVED)

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: New User

I am working on - trying to reproduce the Top of the Pops 70's logo using Gimp (just for fun) I can't figure out how to get a chrome kind of effect on a path ( to match up the text), I'm going to have to use several paths to extend the text and make the circle (which is broken in places), using just one simple colour doesn't do it.
I do trawl the net for help and experiment, but I always seem to have to ask here? Any suggestions appreciated - in Peace RJKD

You can stroke with a gradient, by setting the Brush Dynamics to Color From Gradient.
Size the brush as needed and stroke the path using a Paint Tool, ie. the Paint Brush.

:) Lots of searches on the net usually come back here...so your in the right place.
I may not be able to answer you specific question but I do know that the 'Sunrise' gradient in gimp has been used for a chrome effect in a script and before that I think someone did a tutorial.

You probably need to go back to basic bump-mapping.

Basic bumpmapping. Well worth practicing if you have a spare 5 minutes.

RJKD - TOTP a long time back and Rich2005 has already given you all the required path/bump info.

But I thought that I would play with the logo also, so here is a quick glass copy of that old neon like version, one with chrome/steel set in iron and one with gold in iron.

There are a few curves setting,
which will turn a gradient into what looks like chrome.

The colors used in the image below for the gradient are;
Foreground Gray: #666666 and Backgroung: White #FFFFFF

Here are the cruve setting that will work with this gradient,
on text that has be given an inner bevel.

I used the upper left curve settings,
that can be seen in the image above for this text.

Here is the inner bevel settings I used.
