2-ton,

A beautiful photograph!
My attempt. I have intensified the colours and added a radial gradient to reduce the brightness of the corners and try to bring the viewers attention to the middle.
(I have also scaled it.)
Opinions welcome!

The spiral gradient makes it magical looking, indeed!
Nice one, Isabella, it has a lot of depth to it.
I like the radial gradient, David, it does bring the eyes to the middle, and that does make it seem less busy.

This thread has gone quiet for a couple of days!
Here is a photograph for anyone to have a go at. Back to the Greek island of Kefalonia (I have many photographs from there!).
This is the old Sissia monastery, destroyed in the 1953 earthquake. It was reputed to have associations with Saint Francis of Assisi.

Looks like such an old place, so made an old photograph. By the way, I thought I had the national geographic filter but could not find it...anyone know what it's path is?

About National Geographic, I have it in filters- generic - National Geographic.

I applied it on your pic on my first result and then applied vibrancy on my second try.

You can always find the location of a filter in the Gimp menu structure using

Help -> Plugin Browser and searching for ...maybe geographic.

That is a beautiful flower. Nothing wrong with the original image. However, the watercolor and poster effects are really sweet.

Very easy! I used extract foreground [interactive] (G'MIC).
Then changing background and foreground is simple.
If the background had been in focus, I would also have blurred it.

National Geographic in mine is Filters>Generic>National Geographic

Oh boy, I want to learn about the G'Mic extract foreground!!!! Where is it located?
Here is that other picture using National Geographic first, then freaky details, then I lightened it up a little.

2-ton,

G'MIC Extract foreground you will find under "contours".
It has a list of all its controls when you select it.
I usually set the output to "New layer(s)" because it keeps other options open!
If you are blurring the background it is better to blur the original (or a copy), because the background layer
contains transparency where the foreground has been removed.
