Gimp Art Challenge (USB Cable Text Effect)...

OK Wallace; spent way too much time on this one and it didn't come out exactly like I would like it but tired I am (not to mention GIMP did a rare crash on me and I had to start over from scratch).

That looks really great Conbagui, love that texture/pattern you used. What is it?

So far I think everyone that's tried the challenge has "Aced" it.
I think that RobA's really hit the nail on the head with his rendering.

I read the documentation about this script and it says things about having the "layereffect.py" and "Python 2.7" for it to work.

USB Cable Text Effect With Gimp

Here's a Gimp Art Challenge,
for those with good paths experience,
and or good gradient Know-How

.

Either way...
anyone can participate in this challenge,
whether you have path experience or gradient 'Know-How',
doesn't really matter.
Only your participation is what's at stake with this Gimp Art Challenge.

Hopefully,
we'll all learn a thing or two and have fun during the process.

With this art challenge,
as you can see from the image above.
You are required to create your Gimp Chat User Name.
To resemble a USB Cable.

I'm offering you 2 (two) Gimp resources you can utilize (or not utilize) for this challenge.

The first resource,
is the USB ends...

As a template,
I hand wrote my User Name (Wallace).
Using a fat sharpie.
On a standard piece of,
8.25 inches wide by 11.75 inches tall.
Scanned this hand written image and use it as my template.

You can use whatever method you wish,
as the template for this Gimp Chat Art Challenge.

Thanks RJKD, but it wouldn't be much of a Gimp Art Challenge if I provided a tutorial.
If you create a path and stroke it with the brush I made available.
You'll be half way there.

The USB cable i have no hope.
I tried doing the celtic knot and i ended up with so many paths and then got confused what paths to choose to subtract to get the pieces i want and gave up..that's quite a challenge. :hehe

Wallace - obviously I could not do a purple image, but I did find the right colour for me and had some special cables and plugs made up ...
