If I need to open Raws I usually do it in LightZone and then bring it into Gimp but it is doing an unusual thing there. It is sometimes giving the whole photo a 'red' tint. Now I know it shouldn't be there to start with because I have seen the photo as it should be before I open it.

There is a Gimp plugin - Ufraw - which is built on DCRaw. I have the Linux version, but it is also available for Windows.

In the Linux version you just tell it to open the raw file in Gimp and Ufraw automatically opens and when you have adjusted it and say OK it transfers it into Gimp.
