Welcome aboard Wallace!!!

Now I have tried to be subtle! Luminosity mask to find more detail around the roots, two slight changes of colour and wavelet sharpening.

In this thread I have done a couple of write-ups about masks - they probably don't justify the title of tutorials!!!
#402 has a file - masks.pdf - which you can download and the first image in the file is the one used for the explanation.
#407 has a link to the saulgoode luminosity masks.
#433 - gradients_and_layers.pdf uses Issabella's Bay leaves & blossoms picture which you will find in #425.

I don't know if these will be of any help to you!

my try
- duplicate layer
- apply tone-mapping then freaky details
- combine in mutiply mode
- create and apply a nuance "zafferano" (defined as #F4C430: R=244,G=196,B=48) in color mode, 50%
- repeat, but at 30%

-dup, set to overlay
-dup, luma invert, set to overlay
-dup the last layer, but opacity at 80%
-new layer, apply radial gradient 01_ELE Clouds 006, (which goes from approx RGB=1.0-0.9-0.5 to approx RGB=0.4-0.2-0.05; values expressed in 0.0-1.0 range), overlay at 50%

here the outcome

Tone mapping
make wonderful at 15% opacity
unsharp mask
g'mic sharpen (gradient)

If I'm correct.
Make Wonderful was part of the FX-Foundry package back in Gimp 2.6 and 2.7,
which I believe has not been updated to run with 2.8.

When installed it would have been located here...

There also may be a script available separate from the FX-Foundry for Wake Wonderful.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to locate it,
if it does in fact exist.

With a little digging.
I found what I believe are all the script-fu sharpness scripts.

Once installed,
you'll find them under Image>Script-Fu>Sharpness.

I just got it from sourceforge, ignoring the 2.6 admonition, and it works fine: FX Foundry
