Problem with name of patterns made with gimp (Solved)

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
GIMP 2.8.14

I have made a few practice patterns with GIMP. I named it very simply, such as "Blue Swirly". It appears in the GIMP dialog with "Created with GIMP". Have tried many times to rename but always identified in the dialog as "Created with GIMP". How do I get the descriptive name to show?

Thank you, Tom. Wallace's explanations and instructions took care of the problem. Thanks for posting for me the link. I still don't know what went wrong as I always give a name to an image, but all is well now.

What kind of image is it?
Did you saved it as a Gimp Pattern file?

Pat, the problem you (and everybody has) is that when you create then export an image as .pat Gimp adds a description field and uses the description as pattern name instead of the file name you entered
See the attachment: the red circle indicates the name the user enters as pattern name to save, the green circle the name of the description Gimp adds

I had used .jpg and .png. So it must do it with those also. I have most of them fixed now. Thank you for the screenshots. I will remember to be careful of that when I use .pat also.

It's a common issue which seems unnecessary to me,
that I wish could be done away with somehow.

I agree Wallace. You would think the description would remain the description and the name would be the name. Oh well, after I read your post that helped Tom, I was able to easily start correcting things. Thank you again.
