Don't underestimate yourself Sasquatch, your "Limitless" project continue to be my source of inspiration. If anyone has any handy hints on 'getting' perspective I would really appreciate that, it's the one aspect of this work that I'm struggling with.

Perspective is all about the horizon line and the vanishing points. Check the web for examples of "single (or 1) point" perspective. Play with 1-point to get comfortable with it. Then move to 2 and 3 point.

I'm pretty sure I've worked it out Wallace, I was using a white layer mask, I originally thought that full opacity would be better than full transparency, now I'm using a black layer mask I don't get that horrible 'oily' effect.

Those are some beautiful planets. Are they from a script? One suggestion, it would look more cohesive if they were all highlighted the same. As is, each looks like it has its own private spotlight rather than sharing a sun.

I agree about the lighting, thanks for the tip on perspective, I'm nearly there, just need to get the technical parts correct and I'll be a happy Gimper, here's my best shot so far.

Nice, per se, but maybe ..."too" delicate, compared with the BG.
If you still have the source (.xcf) maybe you can increase the contrast on the text, but this is my taste, of course

Great outcome OMG, my garden has also had to have some serious attention before this season ends. Here I go again - just how did you create that beautiful flowing effect on your GIMP Chat image?

RJKD - thank you; there are a number of different scripts to do these extrusion images and they all play with paths in some way.

From some scripts you can just set the 'degrees' or direction for the extrusion, but you can use a more 'manual' approach by using Ofnuts 'generate intermediate paths' plug-in. The parameters there provide several 'stretch' options for addressing how the paths go from the sending path to the receiving path.

There is also the option in the plug-in to use a guide path, which is what I did to get the curved flowing effect. The shape of the guide path parameter is what Ofnuts uses to shape the resulting extruded paths - in this case a couple of hundred of them. Then I just stroke/fill those paths, again using Ofnuts tools.

You can also try out his plug-in with one of your two target paths inverted or rotated, as I did in this one - you get some really flowing, twisted or outrageous results.
