Bob Albion - welcome to Gimp Chat and that is a very imposing image from Blender using the Lord of the Rings theme; with the new season upon us shortly, I used Gimp to support your message but with a changed map ;)

Great job, I've never tried blender but maybe I should have a try.
Love all things Tolkien.
I used the same map but colored the forest and water.
Oldmangrumpy, what's this about a new season ?
Is it a television show or something ?

Glad you liked the image SeriousTom and GrumpyOldMan is mentioning that our English as you would call it soccer season is starting.

West Bromwich Albion which is on the ring in the image is a football team from the heart of England also known as the black country. Not on racial grounds lol it get's that name from the industrial revolution all the iron foundries belching out soot and covering most things in it. Also it was heavily mined for coal adding to the blackness of the place.

I'm pleased to say things have vastly improved over the centuries and it's a clean and quite pleasant place to live now. Oh and funny coincidence J.R.R Tolkien came from the same area and he got a lot of is inspiration from the local area and i quote from Wikipedia "He enjoyed exploring Sarehole Mill and Moseley Bog and the Clent, Lickey and Malvern Hills" read more Wikipedia

Well i hope I've not bored you with my ramblings thank you for liking my image. :)

Image Since you've started a Blender topic I thought I would post the result of my first completed Blender project. Appropriately a Soccer ball.

I'm looking at installing Blender so I can play too. This looks like too much fun and I have ideas I just can't accomplish entirely in GIMP. Anybody familiar with installing Blender from source on a Linux machine?

Sasquatch - piece of cake. Chose a directory / folder that you would like this app installed (under home/username) .... run it .... it'll make its own folder requirements....

upgrading is just as easy ..... I try to keep 2 copies and the new version installed.

their are RPM,'s and deb's available if you use that

and you-tube has billions of tutorials in just about in any language
