One of these days I will learn at least the basics in Inkscape...of course I have been saying this for a few years now! But seriously, one of these days I WILL!

A lot of times what I will do is create one letter at a time, and do a [Layer] [Text to Path] on them each. Then I use the Move tool set to path to move each letter to it's approximate place. Then since the Rotate is based upon the selection I turn the path into a selection [Shift + V] and rotate each one individually. Now when you have the selection tool set to path it's easy to select each letter and do the functions on them. If you have created a shortcut for [text to path], [move tool] and [rotate] then it can all be done pretty quickly.

Also if you have an eliptical selection with all the letters centered at the top you can select each path from the dockable dialog and rotate them all to an elipse.

With suggestions from many, I am finally happy with this result. Thanks guys! Oh wait, I spoke too soon, lol. Now that I see it on the reply, I am going to go back and move the D just a wee bit, then I will be ok with it.

After reading PegLeg's comment, one of Lyle's famous quotes came to mind: <dreamy swirl appears> "there's so many different ways to skin a cat." And all are great ways to approach it.

IMHO the "L" of "CLASSIC" isn't tilted enough

One of those cases where it is easier in Gimp.

To expand on Mahvin's mention of kerning. Try, Adjust letter spacing (overall tracking) first and tweak with kerning (selective letter spacing), if need be.
