Try as I might,
I could not find any defect in the script.
I may have overlooked something,
but I'm confident that I tried all I could to make it crash or throw an error.

apologies for late reply Sasquatch - been on gardening duties, re; planet texture, the basic method I generally use is from this tutorial (it's extremely versatile)

I've seen that tutorial several times but I've never tried it. I might have to give it a go.

Guides can also be your enemy. They sometimes constrain your work into perfect rectilinear form when you need to flow a bit.

Normally I would explain how I did the text,
but there was a considerable amount of path work.
Which went into the final paths used to make that text fading effect.

The bending and rotating of the rasterized type text,
that was applied.
leaves the text in very poor shape.
This could have be done much better in inkscape,
however I have very little inkscape-know-how.

I can post a completed path(s) of the text as a .svg file,
if you'd like to try it that way?

I believe, mathematically, the perspective in that is all wrong. Which is why it looks so right.
