Gimp 2 crashes on startup

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: New User

List any ERROR messages you received:
GNU Image Manipulation Program has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
AppName: gimp-2.8.exe AppVer: 2.8.18.0 ModName: gimp-2.8.exe
ModVer: 2.8.18.0 Offset: 00348c13

As Gimp is starting up I get the error
AppName: gimp-2.8.exe AppVer: 2.8.18.0 ModName: gimp-2.8.exe
ModVer: 2.8.18.0 Offset: 00348c13

I have just installed this version. The earlier version was crashing when I loaded one or more jpgs. I tried a total uninstall and dumped any files related to Gimp that I could find. Then downloaded 2.8.18 and installed it. The above error shows at startup. I am running Exp and have used Gimp for six months before the crashing occurred.

I tried to attach the error file but got the .txt file was rejected.

Where did you download GIMP from?

I have dumped the version that wouldn't start and found another one from 2013 and it works fine. Thanks for your help.

What version of windows are you running?

It's also important to get the program form a reputable source,
such as Gimp.org.

Also many issues can be solved by removing the old Gimp profile,
or renaming it.
So that when Gimp is restarted it can create a new profile.

One more thing to consider,
is if the issue is with the Gimp profile.

Most of the time when you install a different version,
or an alternate version.
The same issues can often remain with this new installation.

Running windows XP may be the crux of your issues.
Also could be the cpu and or available memory needed to run Gimp,
as well as all the other things to keep your system operational.

The best way to revitalize an old Windows computer, test run your system from a Linux Live CD/DVD. If you like it, install it as a dual boot until your comfortable.

Not if your running less then 2 gigs of ram,
with an old Pentium processor and integrated graphics.

You'd be surprised, there are Lightweight Linux distros that run on 128 MB of RAM and a Pentium II.

The issue of memory is important - but it probably is not causing the problem.
I use the most common laptop with Vista 32bit (Intel Celeron CPU 1.73 GHz, 1.0 GB RAM) - Gimp 2.8.18 and 2.9.5 running slow - but correctly.

I guess I have taken the easy route out of the problem by getting version 2.8.10. I only have 1Gig ram but it seems sufficient. It works very well for me now.
I have some work to do for a local nonprofit so time is of the essence for me right now.

No problem Warrey. :bigthup
