I was experimenting with curves today and happened upon a fun effect I thought I'd share.

Here's the royalty-free parrot before;

And here's the parrot after a 5px Gaussian Blur to help the colors blend and then the new curve applied;

If you'd like to play with the curve, just copy the code in the spoiler below, paste it into a .txt file, then import the file into GIMP via the Curves dialog.

One tip, this curve works best with colorful images. Black stays unchanged and any shade of gray, including white, acts as though you've only tweaked the value. I may experiment to see if I can get white to play along.

A second tip, fine details result in a grainy picture. I had to add a blur to the parrot to get the smooth regions of color.

I obtained a similar effect recently using Color>Map>Gradient map with a multi-rainbow gradient generated by script.
