a new approach (using the "needlepoints" as separators of the areas and fabrics as textures)

it should look as a patchwork (I hope....)

Dinasset, it certainly looks as a patchwork project!

Here with minimal colors and the 'huge' pattern
penguins. No color sets, no gradients.

so, did you solve your problems with G'MIC 1.7.7 installation?

Animicule: Very nice penguins!

Dinasset: I really like the "patchwork". How did you do it?

Dinasset, I installed the 1.77 version, and the same filters are not included.
It is my belief that if my computer was online that the filters could
be searched for and installed within gmic, but no connection at home.
So, by copying only gmic_gimp.exe from ver 1.73 overwriting only gmic_gimp.exe 1.77
the old filters are back.
Due to circumstances I had no time to make an exact list yet.

Thank you Pat! I did not get the 'huge' pattern for today,
but 4000x4000.jpg file I will bring tomorrow and you can turn it into a pat file
for testing! I am surprised that it makes outcomes look like gradients were used.

thanks, Pat
soon you will be able to do the same (the "needlepoints" connection, I mean, for the textures you only need to download the Fabric patterns (IIRC was from DeviantArt)

I am wondering if there is a way to download outside of gmic and
transport the filters via flashdrive to my home computer...

The answer from Ronounours:
Yes, basically you have to consider the 3 digits of your G'MIC version (let say 1.7.7 for now), and then you download the filter update file here : http://gmic.eu/update177.gmic.
After that, you have copy this file directly into your local gmic/ configuration folder.
This folder is located either in $HOME/.config/gmic (on linux) or %APPDATA/gmic/ (on windows).
----------
And this solved the missing filters issue.
On my windows 7 professional the exact path was
C:\USERS\BA\APPDATA\ROAMING\GMIC

Animicule: I suggest you pm Ronounours and let him know your problem. If there is a way to get the updates, he would know.

This one recent style with 'huge' pattern and 'just enough' nuances.

Animicule, I like your results but your clouds pic is spectacular. I love it. :bump
I'm happy with this one which I used my glass patterns on. :)

Issabella, the glass texture is nice and fine for a good result!

Here is my attempt influenced by Dinasset's needlepoint
using one of his subjects.

And an extreme version (on the top).

Here is the googlemap photo of my home with a new look.

Pat, here is a zip of the jpg for the 'huge' pattern for you to try.
Unzip the .jpg, open in Gimp and export as .pat file and use huge for the description (or what you prefer).
Not much to look at but it has been fun for a few days for me!
