I would suggest to give more colour to the final result

as an example

Very nice ones Issabella! What do you use for the post process selections?

Today I took Oldmangrumpy's array from post (#88) and desaturated it, then
brightness contrast until the pattern 'stood out'. Saved as pattern omgarray1.pat, then
scaled down to 1/2 size and saved as omgarray2.pat, 1/2 again omgarray3.pat and
finally to 128x128 and saved as omgarray4.pat. Here are some results using it.

This is the very first one with the original size pattern

And one more of the same with the omgarray4 (128x128)

And after looking at the 128x128, I tried a flower.

Then I mixed the huge3 pattern with omgarray4 (opened as layers and opacity blended them).
And did one more.

Thank you for the pattern OMG!

OMG's pattern is used masterfully in your outcomes, animicule. I like the first one a lot.
About my last result, I did an experiment. After select the boat and pasted on transparent layer, I ran texturebycolourarea on it. Applied bevel at the result.
After that I ran texturizebyareabycolour at the whole picture. Used a huge pattern (not yours this time :) ) and blurred the result. Finally I combined the previous result with this last one.

Issabella, the technique really makes the 'billowing' of the sails stand out!
Very nice!

Old building foundation, shows the huge5 pattern made from a black and white
photo of ferns sized up very large and brightness/contrast adjustments were made
before setting opacity to around 50%
