When you import a series of layers from another xcf file to the one you are working in, how are those imported layers aligned?
Should not they come aligned as center of layer on center of canvas?

I am importing a series of layers of exactly 1800x1200 to a new file that is exactly 1800x1200.
See in the capture below how the new layers (blue) are not aligned to the background (black)

Why is that?

I know I can easily fix it by re-aligning the imported layer..... but when you have to re-align 400 layers, that is a different story...
Can anyone please help or at least hint ?

Select your background and use Edit->Paste Into instead of Edit->Paste as New Layer, then right click the floating selection that was pasted in there and select "To New Layer"

Or if your source is saved as an image. When you File->Open as layers, it should automatically put it in center for you, it does for me.

or if it's not center, select the Alignment tool, right next to the Move tool,and in tool options click Relative to: Image.
then click the double arrows pointing at each other to center layer horizontally and vertically, you're like 3 or 4 clicks away.

Thank you. As I said, I am importing like 400 layers, which might hint that I am importing from another xcf file........ not copy-paste, but import as layers.....

I don't have "import as layers" only "open as layers". And that for me is automatically centered.

EDIT: I tried "open as layers" and selected an .xcf and it opened all layers in the .xcf as layers on my image all centered.

yes, that is the expected default behavior...... but in my case for some reason, this is not happening and I'd appreciate some help.

The behavior I see is that:

1) layers are imported with their individual offsets in the original image (ie, they will stack exactly the same way)
2) the bounding box of all these layers is centered in the image

So if your imported image has layer which is wildly off-center, this pushes all other layers in the opposite direction when imported.

I used the Multi Layer Action and executed Layer to Image size for all layers. Saved file under a new name.


Now when I import the new file as layers, the layers are centred. thank you
