Please excuse my lack of knowledge. Are the .svg gradients better than the regular .ggr gradients?

Its a very convenient way of grabbing (well, copying) a gradient from a Photoshop tutorial. These gradients usually come with a screenshot of the gradient editor, complete with percentage values for the stops and hex codes for the colour.

Recreating those gradients in Gimp is very work heavy, as you have to add stops one after the other by dividing and adding colours is unconvenient as well. Also there are no percentaage values for stops, so you have to guess it.

Copying percentage values and hex codes for colours is easy with Rod's text-editor template.

Another advantage is that i can copy the final gradient, thereby converting it to a Gimp ggr. gradient.
Which again, i can import into Inkscape and live edit, if necessary.

Thank you very much for your information. I've only made a few gradients, nothing complex. So I am a noob at making gradients.

How can i write a gradient that consists of black and red blocks ?

It seems this method only work with complete numbers. So 35% works, but 35,3% doesnt.
For a block, i need to have two stops in one place.
