I'm just posting this to say that I'm glad I found this forum and I appreciate the members. I've had Inkscape sitting on two of my computers for a year or two but since I use Xara Extreme I never saw the need to look at it. I kind of saw it as tacky freeware until recently when out of boredom I started looking at it more seriously. I was very impressed by Inkscape and found that it does a few things my XX won't do and it does some things easier. Anyway, I began looking for a decent Inkscape forum, found one that seemed to be a decent one and signed up. Sadly it turned out to be another exclusive club where they answer strangers but won't let them in. For a time I hosted and managed a forum on my site and I know some of what it involves so I can appreciate the time and effort you put into it.

I have had Inkscape for about 6 months now and I haven't been able to figure it out so I gave up on it. I went to all the help stuff and I couldn't understand what they were talking about. SO, it is still sitting on my desktop

I see a lot of people use it and think it is great..... Good luck to them. LOL

I have not yet tried inkscape, but have tried Raven on Aviary. I cannot seem to learn how to do anything on Raven, which is a vector program and I presume it is similar to Inkscape. The help is non-existent. Not that I can draw, but it would be nice to be able to do some things in a vector program without it being totally ugly and amateurish. I would work on it more, but I really need to be more proficient in Gimp before I get lost in another program! I need Inkscape with Gimp's tools, so I know what I am doing!

I wish there was some tape that you could play when you were sleeping and then wake up the next day knowing how to use Inkscape.

I've tried Aviary, it would be nice if I was away from home and it's all I had. I'm wary of online editors and that kind of stuff. It tends to lag me sometimes.

Yes. I agree. I'd buy that tape if it was for sale.

I mainly use Inkscape to resize images if they are very large or if they are small and I want to make them larger.

2-ton, there's Inkscape portable. You can try without installing. For me it means that I can fiddle around in it, but officially I don't have Inkscape. (This is probably psychological sillyness but it works for me. )

I found this n00b tut for Inkscape that I was able to do. It's very basic but it's a start. Not showing my results.

this is just one of the many effects in the new .47 version.
this is called cloning to a 2 tone..although cloning has many many more uses.

Inkscape in my opinion is the best scalable vector image creator out there.
Any image you create with Inkscape can be scaled to any size and keep its resolution.
many new effects are included in the .47 version like
path effects
filter editor (make your own effects and save them)
Spiro...a brand new paths effect add on...very nice smooth path maker.
these are just a few of the great new add ons...soon Inkscape will be able to animate.
(probably in the .48 version)

These videos will get you started, you will love the ease of use.

Inkscape is a very useful FREE open source program for creating Icons, Logos, and pretty much anything you want to print. "Meet The Gimps" logo was actually redone by HeathenX, so it could be scaled larger and look better.
