Will be a challenge to get anything out of this photo but those who are inclined can try. I only got a little bit of a footpath and I think my finger is over it as well. See what gimp alone is able to do!

Any special reason to go further? Any special value on this bit of pavement? Or is it just a challenge for other photos in the same "critical" situation?

Just to test 'your' skill. I got it better using Silver efex Pro 2 from the Nik collection but it only changed the colour.
I really don't expect anything much from it.

Well, you know how the pavement looks in reality, which is the appropriate "nuance" to give to it.
For an outsider, it could be "yellowish, "brownish", "greenish", "reddish" or whatever else.
Only you can judge which one is the right one.

Thanks for having a look dinasset but I probably won't do much else with it myself. I have been able to 'recover' details in photos like that before.
Btw dodge does the same as curves.
