Newbie at Gimp needs to know the quickest and easiest way to resize the canvas to fit all of the images in a photo collage that I am making. Thanks for any help.

Image > resize canvas to fit layers
anyway -- probably better to make the canvas much larger and
resize to fit after you're done...
on the menu bar -- Image and it will have a scale option.

I tried doing that but it does not seem to work. Evidently I am not doing something right.

Did you try scale from Image menu?

Yes I tried doing that but nothing happens as the canvas size still remains the same.

The correct command is Set Image Canvas Size from the Image menu.

That is the only way that I can resize the canvas; but that means that I have to do a lot of trial and error to find the exact pixel size that the canvas needs. I thought that there might be a simpler way.

Leave your canvas too big until you have everything in its place, then you can use the Crop tool (looks like an xacto knife and crop off the extra.
