I can't compete with your skill, hence I follow a lateral way, playing with layers and modes.

I took an OMG's creation as source, so I got an outcome which IMO is very nice.

What I did:
- run the filter with no-flatten no-montage
- on the single unflattened image:
- - off visibility of plasma layer (no effect, it's necessary for the subsequent step)
- - change top layer mode to subtract
- - change opacity at taste (I used 50.0)
- - added spread at taste (I used 80)
- - increase saturation at taste (+100 in this case)
