Technically I think it is quite good. Some of the imagery is a bit 'side show alley' but nothing to get worried about.

That was incredible! I experienced the zooming out effect as well.

Such an amazing imagination, not to mention the talent to pull it off.

I've installed (compiled actually) Mandelbulber2 and have watched 2 tutorials. 3D fractals is something any of us can do.
Amazing the Mendelbrot set was introduced to the public in 1985 at the time personal computers were able to compute the equations? How far can these equations go?

Wow!!! That Mandelbulber video was even more impressive!! I love the lighting/shadow effect is amazing!!

I agree with PhotoMaster. I think Mandelbulber is a significant contribution to digital art. Like G'Mic it's built on QT libs so it is platform independent. Lighting, textures and 'camera' position as well as the flying camera can be finely tuned.

I'm interested in using some of these Mandelbulber blocks of frames with Gimp. G'Mic 'apply to all layers' definitely works as well as Gimp-Gap ability to work on multiple layers.

Very clever indeed.

That was probably a good thing. Mandelbulber2 (successor of MB3D) has very slow render times - even for the screen preview.
I've been investigating 3D Mandelbrot software but first I urge people to have a look at this (with sound and full screen). Its quite long:



The video was made with Kalles Fraktaler and proves fast rendering with a lot of detail is possible. It also shows a Mandelbrot escape sequence at the end because fractals are infinite Kalles Fraktaler is Windows only and has been forked by Claude in the UK who has added some extremely good optimisations.

I think the only fractal available with Kalles Fraktaler is the Mandelbrot set but I have not used it enough to be 100% sure.
Next I will be installing Fragmentarium and FragM which are github projects that must be compiled. I'm looking for 3D fractal generators that can be used with Gimp both at a low level texture stage and also as a video input stream for further Gimp processing.
